Housing Closedown: Traffic Alert

Parents, families, and others planning to pick up students from University Park residence halls for Fall Break should be advised of the following traffic restrictions related to the Penn State Football game versus Rutgers, which is scheduled for noon Saturday:

  • Heavy traffic will impact all campus and community roadways from approximately 7 a.m. through noon Saturday before the start of the game, and then for approximately one to two hours after the game, which is expected to end between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. One-way traffic patterns will be in effect on Park Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and noon – eastbound only between Atherton Street and Bigler Road, and westbound only between Mt. Nittany Medical Center and University Drive.
  • Except for East Halls, all parking areas adjacent to residence hall areas will be accessible on Saturday for student pickup, but traffic will be heavy, and delays should be expected. Vehicles are limited to 15-minute parking for loading in resident student parking areas, and vehicles must be parked in a legal space with four-way flashers in use.
  • For East Halls pickup on Saturday, access to residence hall parking areas will not be available until after the conclusion of post-game traffic early Saturday evening. Prior to then, the closest available parking will be at the East Parking Deck on Bigler Road, where $1 per hour parking will be available for up to two hours. Parking for more than two hours will incur the football game day parking charge of $40.
Access to the East Deck between 8:30 a.m. and noon Saturday will only be available by traveling east on Park Avenue from Atherton Street and then south on Bigler Road.

Pickup from residence halls on Friday and early Sunday morning is strongly encouraged.
