Global Village

Curious about other cultures and traditions? Want to learn how to connect with others whose language and customs differ from yours? The Global Village at Lions Gate is a Living Learning Community designed for both international and domestic students who reside in Lions Gate Apartments at Penn State Abington. Students living in this community will engage with peers from different countries in a variety of ways including international and domestic roommate pairing, Resident Assistant and Professional Staff guided programming, and community explorations. The Global Village at Lions Gate is geared toward students who want to learn more about their own cultures, who they are as members of a diverse community at Lions Gate and Penn State Abington, and how they relate to others from different cultures, traditions, and backgrounds.

A first-generation student is a college student whose parents/guardians have not obtained a degree from a four-year college or university in the United States. Being among the “first” can be the most exciting—and most challenging—time in your academic career. By joining the FirstGen community, you’ll discover

  • a supportive environment where students—like you— can connect and share their diverse backgrounds and learning experiences
  • resources for academic and personal development
  • strategies for self-advocacy and overall success
