Curtin Hall is named after Andrew Gregg Curtin, the 15th Governor of Pennsylvania from 1861-67. Hailing from nearby Bellefonte, Curtin led Pennsylvania through the Civil War, signing various bills to finance the Union's military efforts. After his term in office, President Ulysses S. Grant appointed him as the U.S. Ambassador to Russia in 1869.
Curtin Hall was originally built in 1961 and renovated in 2023, is an updated version of a traditional residence hall providing students modern amenities and conveniences, such as climate-control. The ground floor features lounges, kitchen, laundry room, study space, knowledge station, and music practice room. The building offers coed housing, and bedrooms feature flexible furniture that allows students to arrange their room in a number of different ways. Curtin Hall offers multiple private, single-user bathrooms located on the floor that are shared by all residents. Curtin Hall is located in the southwest quad of the East Housing area and in close proximity to the The Arboretum at Penn State, Palmer Museum of Art, Intramural (IM) Building, McCoy Natatorium, Pegula Ice Arena, and Penn State Berkey Creamery.
Findlay and Johnston Commons Buildings support students living in East Halls.
