Irvin Hall is named after James Irvin. Irvin donated the 200 acre farm that established the University.

Irvin Hall, built in 1925, is a classic traditional residence hall. The building offers ample study and social spaces and features a living room, recreation/game room, kitchen, and laundry room. Irvin Hall offers coed housing and bedrooms feature fixed and flexible furniture that allows students to arrange furniture in a room a few different ways. Irvin Hall is coed with male and female students assigned to separate floors and a designated bathroom shared by the residents of the floor. Irvin Hall is located in the West Housing area near the Nittany Lion ShrinePattee and Paterno LibraryRecreation Building (REC Hall)Blue and White Golf Courses, and Hepper Fitness Center.

Irvin Hall offers double-occupancy rooms and a limited number of triple- and quad-occupancy rooms.

Housing Room Rates

Housing and food charges are posted to the student's LionPATH account at the beginning of summer (if applicable), fall, and spring semesters. The Office of the Bursar manages billing statements and processing payments.

Earth & Mineral Sciences House (EMS)

Residents of the Earth and Mineral Sciences House live in Irvin Hall and develop close relationships with faculty from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Students live, study, and socialize with others who share their love of earth sciences, earth science policy, energy, business and finance, energy and sustainability policy, energy engineering, geobiology, geography, geosciences, materials science and engineering, meteorology and atmospheric science, mining engineering, and petroleum and natural gas engineering. Field trips, house dinners, guest lectures, lunches with faculty, community service, and intramural sports are just a few of the educational, service, and social opportunities available to members. Residents also enjoy access to a computing lab, kitchen, and study lounges.

A triple room houses three students in a larger room. A quad room houses four students in a larger room. A limited number of triple- and quad-occupancy rooms are available.
