Martin Hall
Martin Hall opened for occupancy in fall 2018, and is an updated version of a traditional residence hall providing students modern amenities and conveniences, such as climate-control. The ground floor features a living room, kitchen, laundry room, study space, meeting room, knowledge station, quiet/wellness lounge, and music practice rooms. The building offers coed housing, and bedrooms feature flexible furniture that allows students to arrange their room in a number of different ways. Martin Hall offers multiple private, single-user bathrooms located on the floor that are shared by all residents. Martin Hall is located in the southeast quad of East Halls and near the Palmer Museum of Art, The Arboretum at Penn State, Intramural (IM) Building, McCoy Natatorium, and Penn State Berkey Creamery. The Findlay-Johnston Commons supports students living in East Halls.
Martin Hall is named after Edward Martin, the 32nd Governor of Pennsylvania, serving 1943-47. Martin then became a U.S. Senator, and had a distinguished military career through four wars, earning a Distinguished Service Cross and a Purple Heart. Martin was recognized for his outstanding work during the Johnstown (PA) Flood of 1936 by being promoted to Major General in command of Pennsylvania's 28th National Guard Division. Martin was from Waynesburg, PA.
